Friends Of Montgomery (Spring)

Over twelve weeks, starting in January 2013, a number of parents from Montgomery have been working with artist Andrew Tims to create new textile artwork based upon their personal memories.

Parents were tasked to recall significant moments from their lives, and bring in objects that represented those occasions. These have included relocation to Birmingham from other cities and countries, their children’s birth, weddings and family get-togethers, represented by amongst other things – clothing, toys, and photographs.

These personal and historic artefacts were collected and shared with the group before being transferred to fabric using photographic printing and embroidery techniques.

Each of the items hold a personal story, which the parents have developed and included within the artwork, using their home language.

All parents that have participated in the project will receive a certificate marking their achievement, presented at the launch of their exhibition at Montgomery on Thursday 28 March 2013.
