King Edwards - Borcherds Shield Competition (27/01/2017)

The final of the 'Borcherds Shield' Maths final took place at King Edward's school on Friday the 27th of January. 4 children from Year 6 took part in a range of  tricky rounds including a speedy maths relay race and a maths 'crossnumber' puzzle. Each member of the team worked hard and encouraged one another throughout the afternoon. Out of a total of 90 teams who entered the competition, 'Team Monty' finished 7th. It was a fantastic effort and the whole team should be extremely proud of their efforts.

Christmas Book Reviews - The Winners!

Over the Christmas holidays, children were given the challenge to write a book review about any book they had enjoyed. We had so many fantastic entries and announced the following winners from KS2. A huge congratulations to the following children: Fatima (Y3 Eagles) , Madina (Y3 Eagles),  Alina (Y3 Buzzards),  Hasanah (Y4 Alligators) and Aina (Y4 Crocodiles).

They have won a £5 voucher for Waterstones, how exciting! If you would like to win a voucher and buy a fantastic new read, then watch this space for more book review competitions!

New Library Opening!!

Our new library will open on Friday 3rd March 2017. We have an exciting week planned for the children along with an author to open the library. Our new librarian will start this term and in the next few weeks, Bookspace (a company based in Birmingham) will be completing the design.

Here is a sneak preview…

King Edwards - Borcherds Shield Competition (09/12/2016)

On Friday the 9th of December, 4 children from Year 6 at Montgomery took part in the Borcherds Shield competition at King Edward's School. In total, 10 teams battled it out through several rounds. The crossnumber round involved the team working together to solve as many clues of a mathematical crossword as they could. Other rounds included a relay race where the team split into two pairs, each pair then had to solve mathematical puzzles before passing on the next puzzle to the other half of their team. The team worked well together and were able to utilise their strengths to help tackle each round . After a hard-fought challenge, the Monty team finished 2nd out of the 10 schools, just one point off joint first! It was a wonderful afternoon and the children represented the school in an excellent manner. Well done 'Team Monty'!

Speed Awareness At Montgomery (11/10/2016)

Children in Puma class (year 5) have been learning about road safety as part of Birmingham's Slower is Safer campaign. The class have taken part in a road safety workshop, doing risk assessments, on the roads outside school and using speedometers to check the speed of local traffic. Five pupils also took part in Kids Court, where they had the opportunity to interview people who had been stopped by the police for speeding. Local media (radio and television) and council officers were also involved in the Kid's court event. We hope this campaign will encourage people driving around the local area to drive at the new speed limit of 20mph.

Izzah -’I hope people drive at 20mph now, and there are less accidents on the road.’

Kamrul - ‘This has helped me feel more confident about asking questions and speaking to people.’

Tanim - ‘I think our campaign will help people live life longer.’

Mahek - ‘It was a great experience, I would definitely do it again.’
